Issue: My Comment Doesn't Appear

You have posted a comment. You refreshed the website in your web browser and looked for your comment, but it doesn't appear. What is going on? Actually, this is a problem that arises with many Internet-based forums. It relates to an unfortunate feature of many web browsers. The problem is easy to fix.

Here is what is going on. To reduce download times over the Internet, your web browser stores on your PC's hard drive a copy of each webpage that you access. If you re-access a webpage, your web browser may display this old "cached" version instead of downloading the current version of the webpage over the Internet.

If you have posted a comment, but it does not appear when you refresh the site, your PC is probably displaying an old cached version. Your message has posted successfully. It can be read by other visitors. It does not appear on the version of glynholton.com displayed by your PC because your web-browser is displaying the old "cached" version of the website. You do not need to repost your message.

You can adjust your web browser to avoid this problem. Instructions for FireFox 1.0 and Internet Explorer 6.0 are provided below. Other web-browsers can be adjusted similarly.

FireFox 1.0:

1) In FireFox 1.0, select Tools - Options.

2) On the left hand menu, select Privacy.

3) Select Cache.

4) Find where it says "Use up to ______ KB of disk space for the cache," and enter the number 0 in the blank

Internet Explorer 6.0:

1) Go to Tools - Internet Options.

2) Under the General tab, find the heading Temporary Internet Files.

3) Click the button Settings.

4) Where it says "Check for newer versions of stored pages," select the option Every visit to the page.

5) Click OK.
